Default EGR delete on 85?

Ok, so I relly wanna get rid of the egr valve. Thier almost $70 to replace(wich I will have to do unless) plus I would have to get the new temp sensor for it, and its kinda a pain in the butt to get one ( A 45min drive and $16) so if i can get rid of it that would nearly save $100 bucks. So my question is has anyone had any problems with the delete or any real performance loss?

The problem you might have is pinging. If you use 91 octane you should be OK.

Since the 85 uses a manifold passage and not a seperate pipe to feed exhaust to the EGR, I don't think there's a sensor to detect EGR on an85.

The only sensor it has for it is a thermocouple at the base plate on the egr itself.

Have you tested the EGR to confirm that it is indeed not working? You asked about "no engine lights or any thing" - if it was throwing a code ... I'm pretty sure the EGR circuit failure is a code 32, but this does not necessarily mean that the EGR itself is kaput. Do you have access to a Helms Shop Manual for this year of car? It sets out the steps to narrow down exactly where the EGR circuit failure is occurring.

My opinion...fix it rather than eliminate it.

in extended periods of light load engine operation the ecm enters 'highway' mode...failure of egr in this mode will cause the engine operating temp to rise, typically evidenced by some increase in coolant temp...in extreme cases piston damage may occur.

note your engine coolant temp while driving varying throttle positions in the 'countryside', and watch after entering 'turnpike' (constant throttle position)...if coolant temp 'goes to a higher level' the egr is likely malfunctioning.

Have fun finding the sensor. They aren't made anymore. This is the part number you need 14087416. New part number is ACDelco 212-337. They can be ordered
