I would like to know when this wire is plugged in what it activates? When my car(88)has this wire unplugged it idles at 500 rpm and runs ok,but when it is plugged in it won't idle, pops in the intake and exaust and generally runs like crap. You name it I have replaced it,IAC,plugs, cap, rotor, module, wires, egr valve,IAT,MAF relays, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, changed distributer,o2,changed ecm, same result.

That tan wire is the EST wire. It it used for timing advance. When you set the timing on your car you unplug this wire so no advance is preset.. When this wire is unpluged it will set a code 42 ..WW

Tan wire w/ black strip, comes out right next to the brake booster on the engine side, has a black disconnect about 2" long . This is where its at on my 89, your Lt1 may be different..This is what the code 42 can be caused by according to the FSM...42 (Check wiring at ignition module. Replace ignition module. Possible ECM failure). That code may have been there for awhile, you have to disconnect the negative battery terminal to erase old codes... ..WW

Yes, disconnect it. Set timing to 6* advance. Reconnect it. You can unhook the battery to remove the code 42, or after 50 restarts it will go away.

It must be in a different spot. Where does the other end go?
