drysump the $5k question

I'm really wondering if it will be worth it.
This is NOT a dedicated race car.
Autox/HPDE/street car
Same with the tank - IF you can find one that will fit in the battery tray area. Tanks run between $200-$500
The pan will have to be new - because no one I know of races 1pc rear seal SBC blocks... A new steel pan from Champ or Comp Componets will set you back between $400-$650 depending on how many options you want.
The drive madrel will most likely have to be new and all of them are pretty much custom length. Then there is the belt ($50) and drive pulleys ($100)
The pump mounting bracket will have to be custom made to fit around the serp accy drive and C4's crossmember. No ideal how much that would cost to pay some one to build one.
New lines, manifolds, filters and fittings are just good insurance IMO and only a couple hundred dollars for a simple 3-4 stage system.
You could probally do it for around $2500-$3000 if you can find a good deal on a used pump and tank on ebay or racing junk.
You also have to decide if your going to drill and tap the cyl heads/lifter valley for oil scavange or just pull it all from the pan....
It makes HP and is not subject to the problems a wet sump has in high cornering loads..... It may or may not be worth the $$$.

Mine cost about $2600 total but I also did most of the fab work myself and got a killer deal from a buddy on welding (nearly free so that saved me a few hundred). Obviously I already had a lot of the tools I needed and a very understanding wife. E-bay is your friend, but it was a lot of research and work.
Here's the breakdown:
Tank: Used coleman tank that I cut up along with 1/8" sheet aluminum to get it to fit in the battery tray. Trust me, there isn't a tank out there that will fit that area without mods $207.00 (including welding cost)
HTD Belt 720 x 20mm $20.00
Used Johnson's 4-stage Pump including cost of a rebuild -- would have been just as cheap to buy a new one! $1,184.00
Pump bracket -- $10 for aluminum stock to fab it
Pulleys (used e-bay) $45.00
Mandrel with a butt-load of shims and spacers (e-bay) $80.00
bungs and misc for Tank / etc (summit) $137.00
Oil Lines and AN Fittings (summit) $495.00
Remote Filter adaptor and a Fram HP6 (ebay) $35.00
Hamburgers Oilpan. The pan itself was only $30 (ebay) but it only had 2 pickups so I had a 3rd one welded in $115.00
Pan scavenge screen filters (optional, but good insurance for the pump -- from Poske performance, 3 filters) $96.00
Breather can (peterson from Poske) $67.00
Oil Thermostat -optional (Canton) $100.00
solid motor mounts, about $10 worth of steel and a beer for my brother to weld them.
If you go with a 3-stage (2 scavenge, one pressure) you can save a bunch on complexity, pump cost, lines, etc.
Back to your original question -- was it worth it for a 50/50 street track car? Heck no! (even for the $2600) It was really one of those projects that I thought would be really cool to do since I had never seen anyone do it on a C4 that wasn't a gutted race car. I'm very happy I did it but I don't think I'd want to do it again
Never having to worry about oil pressure on the track is sure nice though...If you ever make it down to Houston (I moved from Chicago) let me know.

Countless race cars in the sixties through eighties ran a lot faster than you're ever going to go, and ran just fine without a dry sump.

It's all part of the same install
What would you have me do install it all, then rip it all out again
Do you have a clue how ones even installed?
Edit to add a link to his site. www.baldturbofreak.com
When I point out the absurdity of it all, you resort to personal attacks. Just finish it already.

That's ALL you ever do
What have you actually built?
The reason it's taking so long, is that it's a lot harder to do than you
think. Maybe if you actually tried it you'd find out.
If you can't stand the heat than STFU!

23 years as a fighter pilot and 20 years as an airline pilot and Captain. You imply that I can't stand the heat. I have flown combat sorties in two wars in defense of the interests of this country. What have you done? It appears that you have self esteem problems and feel the need to build yourself up. You can't hold your own in a civil dialogue and resort to personal attacks. Do you really think I care about your opinion of me? I have and can build engines but that is irrelevant. It has been so long that I have forgotten exactly what your project is. Enlighten us as to what has taken so long. It certainly has never taken me the amount of time you have in this "project."
As a fellow Engineer I wish you only the best but you need to wake up and smell the coffee. My PM box is full of messages from folks who recognize your folly.
