Default Hypertech vs Fastchip

I have a hypertech stage II chip right now. Is it worth the money to upgrade to a fastchip on my '92 automatic (non electric transmission)??

Don't waste your money. Off the shelf chips are garbage.

Not unless you have a lot of mods. You can basically do everything the chip does by increasing your fuel pressure and base timing.

I have a Fastchip but I also have a Super Ram, LT4 Hot cam, heads and so on..

How do you increase fuel pressure and base timing?

You need to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Accel, Crane and Holley have them. Accel's is the best. To change the timing all you need is a timing light.

I have to agree 100% with the above statement.

I track tested a "perforamnce" chip once and the performance chip always went slower than my stock chip.

I up graded from stock to a stage 3 Jet chip and it was like a totally different car. I don't know if people like Jet chips but I have to say it made mine an animal compared to stock.

I have a 92 Auto like you do. I use to have a Hyperteck and went with the Fastchip and kept the 160 degree thero a few months ago. You can change the shift firmness as well as when the second fan turns on and off and a few other things. I found that the Hyperteck chip did not really do much for the vette at all. The Fastchip did what it was programmed for. It costs more then the Hyperteck, but worth it IMHO. As you add mods, you can get the Fastchip reprogrammed also. :flag

I know people say that a chip is a waste unless you have mods, but, I'll chime in and say it's worth it, especially if you're not into getting your hands dirty and just want to get a little giddy feeling from "hopping up" the car. Don't do the H-tech, POFS in my book. Go with the Fastchip.

Even if you're stock, you're going to gain performance. Especially at part-throttle situations, rather than flooring it, you're at half throttle and still pulling hard.

Is it worth $350 to you? Well, you could get results doing other things. But could you pop those other things off in 15 minutes when taking the car into the dealer, etc? Probably not.

I don't have one in this car yet but I did have a Fastchip in my 95 GMC and it did change the performance level. At the first hit of the key it felt different, not seat of the pants different but none the less it was better.

All chip or programming companies are not created equal. Talk to the people making the product and understand what they are doing. Everyone does something a little different with the programming and it's worth it to understand what they do.

Good luck :seeya
