Default Help!! I'm Roasting Alive!!!

I have an '86 and I live in Phx Arizona. The weather right now is amazing but it get 115+ degrees in the summer. I took a 40 mile or so drive today and I swear the inside of the car was well over 100 degrees while it was only 80' outside. I did some poking around under the center console awhile back and found that the boot that seals the elements out around the three shift linkage rods was in really bad shape and a lot of hot "engine air" was pouring through that boot. I couldnt find a replacement so I cleaned it up as well as I could and did my best to fix it with "Shoe Goo" (an amazing product if you aren't familiar with it) That took care of most of the hot air but not all of it. So I finished it off with expanding foam (the kind you buy from Home Depot to seal cracks and leaks in your house) That seemed to have sealed it completely but its still an oven inside that car!! I can't stand it anymore! Has anyone had a similar issue and if so what was the fix???

You may need to check your cat to make sure it isn't glowing under the car. take a nice drive and then look under there when the sun goes down.

There is also a heat shield over the cat.

Then I would by a meat thermometer and place it in the center vents to see if you are getting coll air coming out. If not, then we'll go from there....that is enough to get you started for now.

Is it possible you have heat pouring in from the heater core? Electronic (thermostatically controlled) systems can have one of several issues causing that problem.

1) broken clip for AC Blend door
2) faulty motor
3) faulty contoller
4) faulty interior sensor
5) faulty control center

A search on "blend door" should reveal more detail on the subject -- if you find hot air is indeed coming from your heater duct.

If it's really heat coming from the trans tunnel, some people pull their carpet and install a insulative product under their carpets.
