What is the cam spec your currently running and how do you like it? I'm currently running a Comp Extreme dual pattern 224/230 HR camshaft but I'm planning to go to a custom Extreme single pattern camshaft somewhere in the 236 or 242 range as I feel the single pattern cams seem to be the better choice for semi long runner setups (LS1, Ford 5.0's). I thought I remember seeing some similar spec'd solid roller setups running in the 240 or so duration with the SR intake and was wondering how well something like that works. I plan to send my intake and AFR heads to GTP for extensive portwork and then uprgrade the camshaft. Just trying to find some SR owners running some bigger cams. TIA!

I like the hot cam as well, but it's less agressive than what he already has, and it's still a dual pattern. I don't think it will be what he's looking for. Almost all cams these days are a dual pattern, they seem to just be a superior design, intake and exhaust gases just don't behave the same.

Not sure how much is marketing hype, but from ACCEL directly:
"Due to the runner length and plenum volume, idle stability is greatly affected by the amount of overlap in a camshaft when combined with the SuperRam plenum. The increase in runner length of TPI manifolds also brings concerns regarding duration and the manifold's ability to allow efficient cylinder fill at over 5000 RPM. Camshafts with intake durations of greater than 220 degrees @ .050 usually do not work well due to their tuning point being above the RPM capabilities of the intake manifold on small block engines up to 400 cubic inches. Large small blocks can tolerate .050 durations up to 230 degrees due to their larger cylinder fill requirements."
"Do not fall into the trap of thinking Accel cams are too small to make power. Small block's have been built that have historically made 525 HP and 600 lb/ft of torque with a SuperRam plenum and a 74219 cam (219/219) from 406 inches."
Re: Attn: People running SuperRam intake.... (Warlock)
The script from Accel sounds just like marketing hype. The 219 cam has proven to work well....just looking for more aggressive setups. Jan 98 issue of High Tech Performance has an article on a Corvette running a 406 w/ SR intake, Crower HR 232/242 .602"/.602" camshaft, AFR 190 heads, long tubes, DFI, etc....and this car runs 10.6x at 125mph. They mention his CR was around 12.8:1 which is pretty high, but this is exactly what I'm looking for. Planning to boost my current CR, extensive porting on the heads (190's) and intake, and go with a healthier camshaft. I'm thinking something in the 236+ range with about .570-.590 lift. Anybody else??

What's up David! Welcome to the forum.
I was running the LPE 219/219 with the SR on my Z at one time. David (DaveT 91Z) was there when I dynoed it. The numbers are in my sig. I liked that cam. I think it is a proven combination. I'm not saying that there isn't a better cam out there though.
Re: Attn: People running SuperRam intake.... (DaveT 91Z)
that 10.6 vette sounds like Julio's from Cartek. Check out cartek.com. They might be able to help you with the details. btw, i've done some research and Julio's car is the quickest NA Superram car i've seen. Too bad the car bought it in a flood a couple of years ago. Good luck
Re: Attn: People running SuperRam intake.... (ralph)
Hey Steve....what's happening. Yeah, the 219 cam works well....just looking for more. My cam is working pretty well. Dyno before the Long tubes was 335 and 388 tq. My cam specs at 224/230 .536"/.544 lift on a 110. It hits hard...just not much for top end. With the long tubes, I haven't dynoed yet, but I've picked up 4 tenths and 3mph over the old exhaust system. So I'm guessing around 350-360rwhp and 410rwtq.
Ralph...yes it is Julio's car. If the article listed all the mods, then his car ran very well indeed. I checked out Cartek's website...not much there for sure. I may try and call one day to see if I can get more info. I just want to run about 118-120mph. You got to run the mph to run with these damn LS1's!! :D

You may want to consider getting John Lingenfelter's book "On Modufying Small Block Chevy Engines". He writes about THE GOLDEN POWER RULE...
"The foremost rule (to which there seem to be no exceptions) is to always emphasize power within the rpm band where the engine spends a majority of it's time. Think about this for a minute. This is the single most important concept you can learn...". If you approach your engine building from this baseline you will be more successful than someone who does not. John's book is brilliant and is inexpensive. Go to http://www.penguinputnam.com.
Good hunting.
