I been using Mobil 1 synthetic and am about to switch to Royal Purple. On tv, they changed to royal purple and the car performed better. A little more expensive but I don't mind.
Can't remember what magazine it was, but read an article comparing different synthetic oils and effect on hp/torque. Royal purple was the winner by 3 to 5 hp/trq. Don't know if you would notice that much difference, but that was the conclusion of the test.
There is no way your going to actually notice or feel any performance difference between the Royal Purple and Mobil 1 (or any other top name synthetic).

I don`t know how you would feel 3-5HP even if it is true.
Maybe 3-5 over convential oil, but I would not believe that against other top tier synthetics.
I know Consumers Digest ran a test over 25k miles and found no difference in wear and tear or better gas mileage between synthetic motor oils, not sure if Royal Purple was in the mix.

Truth in Advertising: BP v. Royal Purple
The April 8, 2009 edition of Lube Report, a weekly email newsletter from Lubes 'N Greases magazine, carries a lead story by editor George Gill titled Truth in Advertising: BP vs. Royal Purple. As it turns out Royal Purple was taken to task by The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. The NAD recommended that Royal Purple discontinue making many of their performance claims due to faulty documentation and anecdotal evidence.
I use Royal Purple in my vette and my everyday work car.
I do believe it lasts longer, and works well, car always is smooth, engine is quiet.
My everyday car is a v6 and has 207,000 mile on it! I a, a sales rep and cover 5 states.
I just think it is good stuff!

While the Royal Purple folks claim to have done dyno tests verifying a 10 hp increase if you use their lubricants in your engine, tranny and differential, I think RollaMo is right; you will never feel any difference.
However, I put Royal Purple in my Super T10 tranny and there was a very noticable difference in the transmission's smoothness, ease of shifting and quietness. Also, believe it or not, the tranny no longer pops out of second gear when decelerating down a hill. I know this may be hard to believe, but it is my factual experience.
I am now using Royal Purple in my engine, tranny and differential - and I'm planning to stay with it.
All the while Castrol GTX is ~$10 per 5 quarts at Wal-mart......
My younger sister came up from San Diego one time.....she was trying to sell me on becoming a MLM distributor for Royal Purple....it would only cost me "X" amount of dollars to "get in" on the ground floor of this very exciting money making opportunity.
Understand, my sister couldn't find a dipstick even if she figured out how to open the hood of a car. She won't take out the trash or pick up a crying baby to save her own life....
How in the hell would this dimbulb figure out what is or what isn't a good motor Oil?? She couldn't spell Motor Oil unless it got her a free trip to the Mall. And this is the choice of Royal Purple to be selling "on the ground floor"???
c'mon what else do you need to hear??
Anything related to Multi-Level-Marketing should be shunned immediately as a scam.

Did you try any other New oil prior??
Did you say for instance try to put in a name brand of oil and you saw no difference, drained it out and then added in RP and then got these results?

Sounds too much like "Amway", "Herbalife", "Juice Plus", "Mary Kay", Shaklee"...what am I forgetting.
Comparing synthetic oils now days is spliting hairs, most of the top brand oils are so close in performance that any of them will do a good job..WW
the purple color additive is part of their differentiating marketing approach/technique....with or without purple makes no "actual" difference regarding performance....same stuff...your just willing to pay more do to the brand's creative improved performance illusion/marketing hype.

I bet if someone came up with a Mauve colored motor oil they would clean up... I may have to talk to Pennsoil....WW
I changed my oil from Mobil 1 to Royal Purple about 5 months ago. I did notice that the engine ran smoother. Oil is really a brand choice but I truly believe that RP did do a better job than Mobil 1.
