Top speed is a function of gearing (trans and diff) and weight for each engine option. It is actually controlled by the ECM rev limiter circuit. My 1986 stock would cut out at 166. This is not something you want to test very often as its very detrimental to your valves. However, we in Texas had an event called Porsche Weekend back in the 90's where if you held any class of SCCA competion license and could pass the technical inspection, you could take your car out on Texas World Speedway and drive as fast as your nerve or car allowed as long as you did not overtake the car in front of you. So you ran timed intervals with your class. My stock '86 ECM always shut down before the after market ECM chips. I suspect this is still the speed determant for our C-4's with factory ECM's.
any one know wat the top speed on these things originally was?
like listed top speed
thanks
hey there,
you're out in my neck of the woods!
back when i had a 94 vette w/ LT-1, AT, and 3.07 gears (in 94), i took it for a midnight ride on I-15 from Murrieta to Corona, and I saw 154mph before I chickened out.
At 150mph, that interstate starts to have some hairy curves!
I can only get 88 MPH out of my '96 after I did a MOD with the FLUX capacitor and Mr. Fusion I bought from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Is today still Friday?...
I like pushing my 90 hard, and I have gone through the car extensively, but I am not with as darty as it can be that I really want to push it towards the 150 mark too much. She is after all 20 years old.
