Anyone here try to convert their stock headlite assembly to "removable bulb" style? If so have you tried the Blue HID lites like the Lexus and BMW have? Any problems with voltage?
I tried a setup like Scorps but got LESS light out. Keep in mind the cheap azz kit I bought was NOT the same as Scorps Hella conversion. So I just put the Cool Blue's on and they really are better than standard halagen. From what I understand the Hella lamps are much better at focusing the light directly ahead. If I had to do it all over again I'd take the route Scorp did... but I'm done spending money on headlamps for now.
If you are referring to true HID then I have not seen or heard of anybody having it yet here on the forum. Its a bit pricey. I saw it in a catalog once, forget which one, and the kit was about $500 which included the ballasts and all other necessary hardware for the conversion. So, as far as your voltage worries are concerned I think thats taken care of in the design of the kit. Although I don't know total amperage draw I'd think it would be OK. Maybe someone else will chime in. Also, I believe Nate over at Xtreme Motorsports converted his C5 to true HID. He may have a source for our C4's. Give him a call at 480-517-4969 ... maybe they can give you more details.
Can you just buy the bulbs and put them into the lens I currently have?
The stock C4 headlamp units are a sealed beam unit. This means that no you cannot replace just the bulb. :( That is the added bonus of what I've got in my car now. Since they are updated and the bulbs are removeable if the bulbs ever fry out I can just go pickup another bulb. :)

Scorp's is nice. But what makes his setup even better is you can buy conversion kits for those type of light system to make them HID. SO if you want a true HID then convert as Scorp did then by the conversion to HID.
There is also the breathless performance no motor HID conversion.
