Code 16?
Finially got the new (rebuilt) ecm back. Plugged it in, and it ran fine for one glorious day. Fans came on at the correct time, power was back, it worked great.
Fast foreward to saturday morning. Started car up, idle wasn't quite right. Figured perhaps PCV, shut down and checked it out. Wasn't plugged. Started again, same idle, so I thought I'd better let it sit and warm up. Soon as it got to around 120 degrees, went into limp mode and fans came on. So now I'm pissed, and I have to go to dinner with the wife.
This morning I thought I'd start over from the top. Charged battery, disconnected ecm and let car sit for around half an hour while battery was charging. Same performance as yesterday, and throwing a code 16. Code 16 comes up, engine shuts down, no restart.
So I pulled the ICM wire and tested according to manual. All normal except that there is no refrence signal coming from ECM wire.
So now I'm wondering, if car throws code 16, does it stop putting the refrence signal to the ICM? I've already ordered the ICM since it's either that or the ECM (just rebuilt last week) or the OPTI (please god no!) or perhaps even the PROM.
Anyone else ever have code 16 problems that wern't related to the Opti?
The code is farily non specific- "ecm senses a problem with the DI system"- and the ignition system is fairly complicated.
I should also point out that I've replaced the coolant temperature sensors, and the fan relays recently as well, so I don't think them to be the problem. I also removed the opti harness and the ecm harness and did an ohm test to make certain the wires wern't broken anywhere, and they were all fine. I'm totally uncertain which wire on the ECM harness is the ICM refrence wire.
Looking for some opinions guys, any help would be great!
By the way, car is a 1992, 6 speed.

If I let the car sit for a little while, it will start and idle for a short time and then die. When I check for spark, I get nothing. New ignition module coming today, going to try that.
