Default No back up lights

The back up lights are out on my 96 w/ manual trans. There is voltage at the connector and the ground pin on the connector checks out OK to ground. The shop manual says either the switch is bad or the switch is out of adjustment. Is there a way to adjust the back up switch? I couldn't find any reference to an adjustment procedure. All I could find is how to replace it.

If it has to be replaced, how the h**l do you get to it? I was just about able to get my hand up there to remove the connector. Do you use an open end wrench to turn it?

To get the switch off my 4+3, I bought a socket and had my brother turn the outside until there was .015 inch wall between the internal hex peaks and the OD. That was the only way I could get a socket on the switch and apply enough torque to get the nut off the switch. I don't know what connector you are talking about, but it is important that you have voltage on the back up lamp socket. If your switch is defective, you wouldn't have voltage on the socket.

Problem fixed. It turned out that the connection at the connector on the back up switch was not making contact. Simply reinstalling the connector did the trick.
