Default White Glow Guages

Does anyone have any experience or advice in chaging the guages of a 94 Vette over to the white glow guages that can be found at L3racing@yahoo.com? I am pretty handy, as I installed and repaired elevators and escilators for 35 years. I have changed the radio in my 94 Vette and replaced the damaged parts of the dash and console. I am a little worried about the pointers of the guages. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
liftrod

Last I remember DOug rippie and callaway had someone who used to do them. Haven't really heard anyone doing it in a while. You posted an email address, do you have a website?

I'm not sure about the dials and how sensitive they are to being moved but getting to that point is easy. Remove the trim at the knees, bolts that drop the column, remove vents or something like that and remove all the screws and the guages pull out. Been 10 years or so since I did it so memory isnt fresh, I sent mine out to get changed to 8k rpm and have it recalibrated.

I did that... It's pretty easy... It just slips over the pointers and covers the original face. Its the white piece that lights up, its not back lit.. You need to wire it in.. you can see the wires hanging down

You can see the controls to change the brightness and from green to blue (about 5 or 6 different shades).

If you search L3racing you should be able to find the guy's ebay store, these gauges are in there.

You got the same ones that L3racing is selling? That functionality is different from the pictures in the auction.

I also see that some of the lights are still orange, most noticeably the LCD. When you had it out, did you notice if these were changeable so you could match the blue?

I got mine off of ebay:

If you want to change the orange LCD, you have to take it out and replace the orange plastic piece with a white one (the pics I saw-a guy used a piece from a lunchables tray). the LCD glass is clear and the plastic piece goes behind it; the light shines through from behind. I used a piece of printer paper, but it is still orange at night. You might need to change the bulb to a white LED or paint the inside of the cavity. You could use a blue LED, but I think a blue piece of plastic would be to dark. I never tried out different colors. Its not that hard though. Just test it before you put the steering wheel back up.
For the pointers- you'd have to scrape the paint off of the needle and repaint whatever color you want them. I left them orange so they match the rest of the lights on the console. (DIC-A/C controls-radio)
Let me know if you have any more questions

Wow, taht's awesome! I hadn't even thought about being able to do this on a C4. This was one of the first things I did in my MR2 4 years ago, and I've really enjoyed the change. The only problem I've had is that full brightness at night is WAY too bright, but at dusk, you need the full brightness to see things well. The end result is that you have to keep changing the brightness levels as the ambient light levels change. I guess a photoresistor could fix that.....

Bubba91, do you have any problems like that?

My setup is here if anyone is interested: http://www.marcmedina.com/misc.html

Guess I need to surf E-bay more for other cool things I can do to a C4 that I hadn't thought of

No problems... The controls are right there on the dash!!
You can change out all of your interior (different colors), parking, turn signal, back-up, and fog lights to LEDs.

I emailed them and still no response a few days later. i never buy from sellers who suck at emailing back. 1 because they suck. 2 because thats what you will get when you have a problem.

Yep, I did see the pad on the dash - I wish I were good enough with electronics to wire this into the OE dimmer control. Having 2 dimmers drives me nuts

Some great info showing up here! Personally the white isn't as much my thing, I was just looking for a way to get away from the orange. Looks like I might be pulling everything apart come fall for an LED conversion, thanks a lot for the link to that thread.
