I have a 1987 C4. It had speakers in the doors, but I replaced the door panels and I don't want to cut them
I want to mount 2 speakers in the dash. How does the dash come apart? Also, Do normal speakers fit into this space? I know the Bose speakers fit, but what about a normal speaker?
Any hints? I am not an audiophile, I just want Ok sound. The exhaust is so noisy it does not matter anyway
You can install tiny speakers in the dash, that's it. Bose was in the doors, Base system used the dash. I'm not sure what size originally would fit there, but I know I barely fit a pair of 3 1/2" speakers in there(used for phone hands free kit).
There are 2 screws at the defog vent and a bunch where dash pad meets instrument panel. Once they are removed, you can pull the pad away from glass. There are some tabs at back of pad that keep that end down. They may have some goop on them that will add to the amount of force required to remove pad.
I tried mounting speakers on the dash but those speaker grills you see on them are not real speaker grills (well at least on mine), there is literally no space to put them on there unless you cut a hole into the top of the dash. But then again you have an 87 and I have an 86. I ended up cutting holes into the door panels and mounted my speakers on there. Hopefully yours have that space in those areas of the dash. AGENT 86 has a point when pulling on the dash, it may feel like its stuck and think you may be breaking it but its that goop and those metal tabs, I had to wiggle and pull on it pretty hard till eventually came off and hit me on the face.
