I have been looking for a short throw shifter for a bit, I can't find it for a 91 6 speed. I looked on hurst and B &M websites, anyone know where to buy one?
seriously? how did i forget ebay? like I am on it all the time. lol. thanks. how does reverse work with a shorty shifter? is it the same with the part you would pull up?
also there are several recent threads on this very subject; all very informative.
don't rush in blind...the various shifters out there offer very different shifting characteristics....get the one most suited for your (and your significant other's) driving style.
Here is another discussion about the short throw shifters. I personally have the Hurst in my 96 and I love it. It is not too short and feels great. I have also heard great things about the zfdoc shifter. Either way you need to get rid of the stock one.

I have a Hurst in my '92 and a B&M in my '90. The Hurst is a very nice street short shifter. Very precise and easy to shift. The B&M is in my autocrosser. Very short throws, very precise, but takes more effort. Not as friendly on the street but still usable. Neither has a reverse lockout any more.
i have the b&m ripper in my 92 its just a street car. i love it, very short throws and like they said no rev lockout it does have a spring that makes it a little stiffer to move the stick to the rev gate to the right. A very nice shifter.
I had been looking for one as well and after reading Hib's review concluded that the Hurst would be the best product. Sorry to hear it was discontinued but with the ebay link in this thread I found one and am looking forward to the install. Thanks for the indirect help.

The '96 uses a "crash-thru" mechanism to prevent accidental shifting into reverse. (I think 95 does too.) There's an additional part in the tail of the ZF to add that "feature". It was the replacement/upgrade from the older pull-up lock-out mechanism.
If you install a Hurst, B&M, or ZFshort-throw on an earlier year (94 and prior IIRC), reverse lock-out is just not there. You have to monitor and keep yourself from making a mistake. It's the centering mechanism of the shifter than should help you be aware of where (what gear) you're in.
No one has regretted eliminating the lock-out feature (yet).
ive heard great things about the ZFDoc shifter. seems to be the best of both worlds as far as the hurst and the B&M. An even shorter shift than the hurst while not requiring as much effort as the B&M.
