Default Newbe exhaust question

Just bought my first Vette. Its a 91 with the 6pd and super clean. I'd like to hear your ideas on my first mods. Its bone stock other than a K&N air filter.

Ive been searching all the posts on this forum concerning exhaust. What brand are most of you guys running? Are you all running cat back or full headers to a Y pipe and out the back?

I dont want anything to loud, but the performance is what I would like. My Cummins turbo diesel has a 5" SS turbo back straight pipe and after 70mph I cant hear my self think in the cab.

Also if anyone in Michigan knows of a good shop to do the exhaust, that would be helpfull aswell, Thanks

The exhaust is a very good first project. I am in the process of swapping exhaust on my 85 now. I normally run TPiS headers into a Random Tech cat and a Corsa cat-back system. A couple weeks ago I had to swap back to stock to pass the California smog test. The only change I made was the headers and front Y pipe. I was amazed what a difference there was in power. The stock manifolds are more constrictive than I thought. When you look at the size of the ports you'll see what I mean.

I would start with the headers and work my way back as dollars permit. There are several threads and opinions about which headers are best. I chose TPiS because they use all the original attachment hardware and all the accessory brackets fit perfect. At first I liked the Corsa cat-back. But I have to admit they are a little loud when I get on it. Highway speed is a different story. They are very quiet at cruising speed.

Good luck. Exhaust is a fun project.

thank you. I'll search the net for the TPiS headers. I'm leaning towards either Flowmaster (I had them on my Mustang) or Borla. I'd like to do the headers and exhaust all at once.
