Wow, I cant imagine going 200mph. I dont drive very fast anyway but it would be cool to run a straight line and experience it. Its kinda like seeing an F16 overhead and saying "What a job!"
Anyway, I saw a show on TV a while back about land speed records and how every year folks get together to do high speed runs on the dry lakes somewhere out west. Anybody can run whatever there as they have classes for LSR for every type of power set up. They have the whole deal where you have to progressively qualify up on your speed to get to go 200. You have to be careful and not go over what you are supposed to for each level or you get run off. Everything is recorded and you get certificates, etc.
Thats where I would try to go that fast. Lotsa flat, no one or no thing to run into for miles and miles.
Sorry I dont remember where exactly but its a big event each year.
In re-reading some of this, I don't know that anyone's mentioned air management. A few years back there was a guy that ran in the Silverstate with a C4. He had around 500+ hp and he was into the 220 zone when he blew a tire. The point is that he was using some methods to reduce resistance and drag.
Rick Doria got to bursts of 218 mph with what he claims as a 355 putting out approximately 525 chp. If he found bursts of 218, he might have had the stuff to hit 220+ with a long enough stretch.

Going fast on the salt is more difficult than the road. The salt gives a little and creates a pretty tremendous drag on the tires. It's kind of like pulling a 1000 lb. trailer with your car.
Drive down a street that has trees on the side close to the road. Put it in 2nd and rev her to 4500 rpms and blur your eyes. 200 mph is no different.
Assuming your suspension is stiff as hell and you're on a smooth stretch lol
200 mph is a lot different. Once you have done 200 mph (which I have in 2 different vehicles) you get a new respect for speed. You also need good brakes just in case you have to slow it down in a hurry. This is not for the timid enthusiasts.
After doing a top end run or two not a big fan of top speed, you realize real quick you have next to no control over the car and if something happens youre dead meat or at least you better hope you dont live through it;loss of car, license, freedom etc not worth it.
Ill take a quick 0-100 car any day of the week.

I agree for the most part. Nowadays I just enjoy roll ons from any speed to approx 180 since the last 20 require some serious real estate.
I topped out my 93 6 times.
My old gsxr600 a few times a night lol
my gsxr750 probably 10 times I sold it fairly quick.
95 supra turbo 755 rwhp
too scared to try on a turbo gixx 1k since it would wheelie at ANY speed!
Aston Martin DBS (passenger)
and my favourite was when I ran down the hill by my house not sure if I broke double digits but fell and rolled on the grass.
Speedo showed 168 once. Rear was a 3.45. Motor was heavily modded with a miniram, solid roller cam, and fastburn heads. It didn't have much juice left at all. But fun!
On the dyno I hit 7900 rpm in 5th. 3.73 gears. 26.2 tire. Sure sounded cool. On the street ( i mean Racetrack ) I datalogged 7400 max it wouldnt pull any higher. taped signal lights and hood around the headlights. side mirrors removed. A lot of the underbody around the tire tray was taped off as well since I couldnt figure out anything for a diffuser at that time. That really helped the rear stabilize at higher speeds. Think I have the the dyno in 5th on my laptop somewhere maybe I'll post it up.
Since youtube came out, there have been videos of Early Z06 cars doing it with minor or no real mods. IMO with 450hp, and a 6spd or similar gearing set up, you would be there on enough road.
Not a chance. The later Z06 has much better cd and can't do it with 505 hp.
