I may have been living under a rock for a while, but I have to know why did the PF25 filter get replaced with the PF454? Was it because the new one is shorter and less likely to get punctured from road debris, or is there some other magical reason??
Could be that Delco is trying to consolidate the different types of filter they have. IIRC, this was done over a year ago.
The PF454 works but you can also use the PF-1218 which is a much larger filter and still doesn't extend past the oil pan. It holds nearly a full quart and has more filter area than the smaller ones.
The PF25 can be purchased as an ACDelco "classic" with a white can and the red AC "bulls-eye". The PF35 also.
PF25 = 19187300
PF35 = 19187301
Hard to find but available.
The PF454 and the PF1218 were released with a CL suffix, the filter media and assembly process changed for performance applications. The e-core (I think it's called) was prone to being "sucked" into the system by performance oiling systems.
These are easier to find but sometimes not much. Compare these side by side to the conventional PF454 and PF1218 and you'll easily see the difference in construction. These are what you really want!

this may be true, however, the retail price of the 19187301 (PF35) is (drumroll please) $27.17 EACH - i'm thinking gm dealer cost has got to be north of $14.00. too rich for my blood. since i don't have a performance oiling system, i'll stick with my good old PF1218's at around $4.00. somewhere, you hit the point of diminishing return...
I usually go with Purolator Gold or maybe Mobil 1. AC Delco is just aftermarket made anyways. Last I recall, I think they are made by Champ. But that could be wrong.
