I just brought a 1991 vette. It hasn't been driven in a while. I changed the wires and plugs in it Friday then took it out for a test run. While driving I hit the accelator and got the car up to 80 mph or so, I decreased my speed and the car shut off. I tried to restart the car but it wouldn't start. After about 5 mins the car started but was sputtering. I drove the car today and everthing was fine. Has anyone had any problems like this? Could it be my fuel pump is sticking and needs replacing? Please help!
A clogged fuel filter will show up at the higher speeds (80 or so) when more fuel is required by the engine. I would start out replacing the fuel filter.
colt is correct, your fuel filter is likely to need replacing. BUT before you start throwing parts at it do the diagnostics. You will save many, many dollars. BTW, an ignition control module can give you the same symptoms.
If after changing the filter you have the same problem, try taping a fuel pressure gauge to the windshield and see what your pressure is under load. But as was stated before, do the proper diagnostics according to your FSM (you DO have a field service manual, right?) and save yourself a lot of time, money, and aggravation.
my 91 was doing the same thing i replaced the stock fuel injectors with some Bosch design 3s and now the car runs like a dream. from what i learned on the forum the stock injectors aren't very good and should be replaced. call jon at FIC
Fuel filter should be changed as regular maintenance, but if the problem returns then I'd check spark to each cylinder, and go through all the diagnostics in the manual for the coil and ignition module.

Had a similar problem on my 93GP just quit running. I had a bunch of things thrown at me on what it may be. I had it towed and done a scan on it, ended up being the fuel pump. So what Colt and Muffin said are spot on...good luck to ya...
