Hello all... I'm having a problem with my 93 c4 m6...I turn the key and absolutely nothing happens... no lights turn on or anything... no fuel pump either. The other day I tried cranking it and it made some clicking and buzzing noises. One of the relays on the driver side was buzzing real loud so my dad disconnected it, its stopped now. All fuses inside and outside are fine, I replaced a few but it didn't do anything. Its almost as if the battery is dead, but it is not, I've tested it and it checks out fine. I thought it may be vats but I figure the security light would still come on when I turn the key
If the connections at the battery are clean and tight, check the other end of the cables. The + goes to the starter I think and the - should go to the block.
If you have courtesy lights, dash lights, radio plays but no starter solenoid clicking, then you have VATS problems NOT battery problems!!!
First check your clutch safety switch (gear selector switch at base of gearshift if automatic). Unplug the safety switch and jump the socket. You should measure 12v on the jumper when you hit crank position on the ign sw. You can check the starter motor by jumping 12v to the jumper, the starter motor should crank. If no 12v, then remove the kick panel above the drivers feet and find the 2 wires from above the steering column that plug into a socket and unplug. Insert ign key and measure the resistance across the 2 pins on the wires from the steering column. It should measure the same as the pellet. If more than 4% error, VATS will not allow a crank. You may have worn contacts in the ign lock and a new lock will have new contacts that make connection to the pellet. You can temporarily bypass VATS until you schedule a replacement ign lock by connecting a resistor the same value as your pellet across the 2 pin socket. On 93's you must remove and reconnect the resistor on each crank attempt, you cannot leave it connected all the time like older C4's. Don't permanently bypass VATS because 99% of car thefts are done by bashing the column and jumping the ignition. Also, there is a rod that goes from the ign lock to the ignition switch on the dash and if this rod is not connected, the ign sw will not be activated by the key and no cranking will occur.
