Default 1989 Coupe - Fuel System Issues?

I have a 6-spd 1989 coupe and I am having some problems. Until recently, the car had been sitting for 2+ years. Couldn't start it. Had the ECM replaced & exhaust system replaced. It started after I got it back & attempted to drive to NJ from MD. As the trip progressed, the engine commenced chugging & hesitating, getting worse as trip progressed. About 45 minutes in, engine RPM's went to 0 and could not restart. Had it towed & shop replaced fuel pump & filter & fuel strainer, plugs & module. While they test drove it, they noted the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light and noted a code 22 - TPS sensor. They suspect a possible warped throttle body plate. This was beyond my current budget (have put nearly $2,500 into this currently). Picked up the car yesterday & started to drive home. Had same symptoms as the trip up two weeks ago. Engine began to chug & hesitate getting worse as trip progressed. About 45 minutes into trip & nearly home, engine RPM's went to 0 again & tried to restart unsuccessfully. I went back to rear & unscrewed gas cap & got a large release of vapor. A couple of minutes later, it restarted & I got home. Last night, I tried a short trip again conked out with same results - released vapor from rear cap & minute or two later got restarted & got home. This afternoon, went out after it sat all night & released cap with another large release of vapor. I am looking help into what could be causing this problem. TPS sensor issue, leaking injector or what? Thanks.

Your 89 has know problematic injectors. Ohm test them cold then hot, should be around 16 ohms.
The tank pressure could be just another problem, plugged line to canister, maybe.

I'd guess that if your releasing vapors and it runs, it's purging fuel into the throttle body when it shouldn't or it's sucking raw fuel from the canister. There are no trouble codes for this issue. Clamp off the purge hose and if the condition goes away, you'll need to troubleshoot the solenoid - make sure there isn't any fuel in the canister.
