Default need help with optispark problems

I have a 94 coupe with an LT1. I live in Winnipeg Canada and it is parked during the winter months.
Last year I put 1000 miles on the vehicle the year before it was 1500.
I had to replace the Optispark 3 years ago. I replaced it with a MSD pro Billett.
3 years later and only about 3500 miles and I have trouble again. Periodically while I am accelerating the engine will lose power for a second or two and then catch again. It feels like an ignition or fuel problem. In addition periodically I have trouble starting the engine. It will just crank over without catching. Once again it sounds like an ignition or a fuel problem because the engine just cranks over without catching at all.
The trouble codes point to a problem with the optispark.
The place where I get my car serviced is telling me that I should replace the Optispartk with an OEM GMC Delco rather than an after market like the MSD.
They appear to be having more success with the OEM than the MSD's.
Has anyone had similar problems with MSD?
Any advice from those of you who may have had optispark problems would be appreciated.
Are there other products out there that are beter.

Put a fuel psi gauge on to verify you have fuel psi or not before you go diggigng.

What codes do you have, and can you check them yourself. You will see a dtc code 36 or 16 for the opti.Could be a lot of things ICM could be going out. Fuel pump injectors. You need to be sure. The msd opti can be sent back to msd for repair cheaper than new one. Tim

How many miles on the car?

Fuel filter possibly?

I had those issues about the lose power and then catch up with mine all the time till I changed the opti, water pump, fuel filter, air filter, and had all the injectores and fuel pressure checked.
