I apologize for being late to this one, though I purchased an 84 Vette just a couple weeks ago and trying to get some issues sorted out. I have the new coolant temp sensor for the front of the engine, though before I go moving stuff out of my way, I just want to make sure this is what I think it is. Here is a pic, that shows a tan/brownish cover over it. It has the yellow and black wires going to it. I am sure that if i go prying at the covers the plastic will break. Can anyone confirm that this is the coolant temp sensor? I have the new one, so do i need to purchase a new connector and attach to the old wiring harness? I put red marks around it in the photo. Thanks

Yeah, if it looks like a knock sensor, thats it. It might have a cover that clips on it. Anyways you need to update that sensor & connector. The first one is the updated sensor and the other ones are the old style thats troublesome.

Hurray!. Thanks for the info and confirming. Though, sounds like I need to find the wiring adapter part before I go to getting the old one out. Any chance on knowing the part name for the wiring harness? Also, looks like getting that old connector off is going to be a challenge.
Thanks for your help.

I am working on getting the old sensor removed. It takes a 3/4" deep socket though man is this thing in there tight and presume is the original one installed 37 years ago.. Any ideas that might help prevent breaking this sensor while trying to extract it?

Actually.. never mind. I was able to break it free without damage using the round side of a Gear Wrench brand combination box wrench.
