Key Removal
What do I need to do to get the key out of the Column? The trans is out of the car but the shifter is still mounted to the floor. Is there some kind of locking rod holding it in that needs to be removed? It was a 4+3 Trans. THANKS Pipe

You don't say wather or not the key will turn. If the switch will not return completely and exactly to the "LOCK" position, The key will not come out. I assume that your car is in the 85 to 88 range since you mention the 4+3. The lock has a push button used to enable the switch to rotate. I don.t think anything on the transmission would cause a problem like you describe. If you still have an owners manual, it may explain what is required in the section on keys.

Pipe, There is a cable that runs to the column that will keep you from switching the ignition to lock until the shifter is in reverse. With the trans out, the shifter may be out of position. Try lifting the ring below the **** and hold the shifter in the reverse position, then try switching to lock and removing the key while holding shifter in reverse.
