daytime running light
Hey guys, I just got my first vette, it's a 1994 polo green 6-speed that i bought from another forum member. The car was originally a canadian car, so it has the daytime running lights. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to keep them from turning on everytime i drive through the shade? If the light is right they seem like they are constantly turning on and off. I would like to either be able to control them myself all the time, or better yet be able to turn on and off the automatic part of the lights.

The photocell sensor is located on the dashboard above the speedo. The sensor is round and the inner part will lift up slightly to expose the wiring. If you short these wires the sensor will ground the signal to the ecm.

I tried shorting the photo cell on my 94, and it only made the lights stay on all of the time. The photo cell generates a micro voltage, no voltage = lights on, generated voltage = lights off. So far, no one has come up with a solution. I have considered calling GM to see if there is some way to bypass the sensor, but I sold the 94 to my son, and I'm building an 85 tire shredder.

From what I could recall this issue came up about 2-3 yrs ago and it was suggested to place a 100ohm resistor in parallel to the photosensor.
(leave the photosensor in place and put a 100 ohm resistor in parallel)

In my garage it would usually turn on the headlights as soon as i let off the parking brake...after the change the lights stayed off...also, i drove it last night and i had complete control over when the lights came on...

Glad to see that we finally solved this ongoing issue.
I suggest that this should be put in the TECH TIP section, since this has been an old dilemma which we finally solved.
This would be of great help for other members that that would like to modify the Daytime Running Lights.

I don't know if anyone already submitted this modification to the tech tip area, but i just did. I also mentioned in the tip that the credit really belongs to FrankD for figuring out how (or at least remembering how) to do this mod.
