Default WINALDL Use on 1985 Corvette / O2 Sensor

I am trying to use WINALDL on my 1985 Corvette. I purchased a USB cable to collect data and the cable has settings for a 10K resistor between A & B or no resistor. I have many questions but my first is do I use the setting with or without the resistor. Any information on the uses of WINALDL; collecting, saving and understand it data will be appreciated. Also I have TPIS long tube headers and have read that sometimes with a single wire O2 sensor it will not get hot enough to go into closed loop. Should I install a 3 wire O2 sensor and if so are there instructions on the net?

Use the resistor. Try it in the different positions until you find the right one. You will find the car idles faster with the USB connected, that is normal. I found the software to work pretty well considering it's free. The biggest challenge I had was finding the data log files on the computer. The program saves them as text documents. You may have to search a while to find them. Good luck!

Hi Bill....I have a 85 also, and just went what you are going through. My laptop has Vista and I was having a hard time with Winadl, so I switched to TunerproRT. It is also free. You will not get much data, and it samples every couple of seconds. I went for a 20 minute drive and got about 950 sample points. The data you recieve is pretty basic, such as BLM's, intergrator, RPM, grams per sec through the Maf, IAT temps and whether you are in closed loop or not, etc. The 10k resistor puts your ECM into diagnostic mode where you will have no knock sensor and your idle will be considerably higher, so be careful blasting around collecting data. I have now started burning chips and playing around with my tune and having some success so far.

Thanks all. I am now collecting data! Just need to learn to use the data.

You got Winadl to work? Tell us what you are getting....I am still learning, also and am curious. Us 85 guys with the 870 ECM need to stick together, there is very limited info on data scanning and tuning. It was fairly difficult for me to figure out what I needed (hardware and software) and to actually get it all hooked up and functioning. Now comes the figuring out to do with all this new found info and knowledge. I have already changed the injector sizing from 24's to 19's on my chip, as fuel pressure adjustments were not enough to compensate for my smaller injectors. I learned from my BLM's at WOT, that I was lean (145). So I had to increase the injector pulse width vs. load table. In closed loop, everything was right at 128. You should be able to figure out if you need the heated 02 sensor from your scan. I am still a newbie to this process....there are some smart guys on here to answer your questions.

Hi.
I have the Winaldl also and long tube headers from TPIS. I detected that closed loop was a little difficult in idle. Took longer time to get in closed loop. So I went for a heated O2 sensor and that made all very nice. The O2 readings takes a bit time as it depeds when in the alternations the sample hits but with some seconds of readings you will see if the changes are as normal.
The 10k resistor makes the idle go to 1000 rpm and disable spark knock retard function. I have read some place that a 3.9K is the production version but do not know what to be expected.
Think the see if you are in closed loop is stated and at least in the flag section. As stated earlier here the files is a little difficult to find but are text files and placed in the program part. For me the Winaldl has been the best I have tried . I boug[I]ht aan Autoxray, but that was a miss as it could not be used with the .....870ECM. But it is good in the 165 and up.
The MAf readings is about 10g/s +/- something so 9,9 is very good. This will vary a bit all after your idle adjustments and do the min idle air adjustment without having the ignition advance /retard cable connected. Then adjust so the IAC conts are low. Then the IAC can cope faster with the idle adjustments.
The only thing I have against the Winaldl is the reading of BLM and INT under load. This is difficult asI have too much knocks when accelerating so cannot cover the matrix fully for different readings of MAF and rpm.
Its a good and free (up to oneself to donate).
