The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
My Silverado is black and it sits outside so waterspots are common. What I have done is to wash the truck with hot soapy water and some white vinegar. I remove tar deposits with something like WD-40 or a good tar remover product. Then wash again.
I have had really good luck with Griot's Garage products and especially with their clay bar. The Meguiar's clay bar doesn't work all that well I use the Griot's clay bar with their "Speed Shine" as the lubricating agent and not soapy water.
After claybar, I will wash the truck again but with less soap, then dry everything with towels. I have one of the older Griot's DA buffers (Porter Cable model 7336 which is actually a sander). Griot's has specially made foam pads for their polish as well as their wax and they are different.
I would recommend using the Machine Polish 3 to clean the surface and remove any swirls or light scratches. After that, you can use their "Best of Show" wax or if you don't want to apply wax 3 times per year, use their Paint Sealant for a long lasting protectant.
Groit's makes some very good stuff but it is pricey compared to other products. They don't do the "one-step" stuff you find at parts stores. There is more work involved to their products, but you can get show-car quality results if you want to do the work.
Go to their web site and look around and request a catalog. Some very neat stuff in there.
