Hi everyone Im at the point of either getting my engine rebuilt for about $2k

I have a 1994 cov corvette with about 165k on it it has a knocking noise coming from bottom part of engine just not long ago I had it diagnosed at a shop.

I just came across this on craigs list would anyone give me your input please.

These crate engines have a 4.00 in. bore and a 3.47 in. stroke with 4-bolt mains and 2-piece rear main seals. Camshaft specifications are .383 in. intake lift and .401 in. exhaust lift. The open duration is 194 degrees intake and 202 degrees exhaust at .050 in. with a 112 degree lobe separation. The cylinder heads are cast iron with 1.94 in. intake valves and 1.50 in. exhaust valves, 76cc combustion chambers, and 7-bolt style exhaust flanges. These engines include painted valve covers, oil pans, and timing covers. They are drilled for both left hand and right hand dipsticks.

Specifications

4-bolt main with 2-piece rear main seal

Cast pistons (dished)

Some members told me to get the engine rebuilt because I would know what Im getting but most of the shops that I have talked to wanted around 2k to do the work.

It is not an LT1 engine, it will not work in your application (as a drop in). Have your engine rebuilt.

Ask the shops who quoted you 2K for details on what that includes because it does not sound like enough money to do the job properly.

$2k is really cheap unless you're doing the R+R yourself and dropping the engine off at the machine shop.

That motor sounds great if you have a station wagon.

dude- I've got my Lt1 for sale for CHEAP (complete). It's not a bad idea to get another engine to have rebuilt with the parts you want while you continue driving your car.

*edit*

I think a totally basic rebuild should be less than $2,000 (hyper pistons, reuse of the rods, crank). re-fresh the heads, etc/

im assuming the post is a joke because noone who owns and cares about a c4 would put in such a subpar motor.

In fact, even the stock motor is not adequete anymore.

the latest police cruisers (such as caprice ppv) will run circles around our c4s.

do a search on performance features. ported afr 195cc heads, long tube headers, 383 stroker, forged components, forced induction, etc.

may want to go a little lower compression in case you decide to go to forced inductiuon instead of being 'stuck' with high compression n/a.

Well- it boils down to a budget and need. If his c4 is his daily driver, than down time is a critical factor. For the "average" budget minded individual that just needs to get the car back on the road, a "freshening up" is good enough. Otherwise, it's easy to list "top shelf" parts... we're talking $10k plus for the little list that you put together.
