Pulled the codes on my '89 and got code 15 - ECT snsor indicates low temp, or ECT sensor open. Can somebody tell me what this means and where it is? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The car is idling very poorly. It revs up then down. I have not checked the temp gauge yet but will when I get home. The wire is connected and the connector seemed ok. If the sensor goes out will it cause the car to run poorly like that.
Thanks
Car is idling around 1500 RPM now. Coolant temp got to about 185 with an oil temp of 165 while idling. I have not driven it and got it to full operating temp yet. Is there a way to test the sensor?

Re: ECT sensor (mayberry)
That sensor has no effect on the guage, it's for the ECM.
Quick Check:
Engine off, disconnect battery negitive cable for a minute or so.
Reconnect battery
Disconnect temp sensor
Short wires on sensor harness connector together using a small jumper
Re-start car and see what code sets
14 = sensor harness OK, check connector and sensor
15= wiring harness has an open circuit
Wiring: Yellow wire +5V from ecm
Black wire = ground
Pulled the sensor out and shelled out the 12 bucks for a new one and my car is running great. Thanks everybody for the help.

Yea it would be nice if I could get every sensor on a bulk package deal. Looks like I am going to end up replacing them all anyway.
