Default Super Ram/ Head Combo, I need help

I own an 87 Vette with 170k that i want to change the intake and heads on.I have located a seller who has a Lingenfelter (before Accel) setup
with 1000cfm TB and the whole upper intake injectors and all. The setup is attatched to a 1988 Lingenfelter 383 and he'll throw in the heads that are ported and with 1.6RR's for two grand, or best offer. Will the 383 heads work in my L-98? He's forwarded me some pix and I need some advice. If anyone is willing to check out the pix and give me some feedback, it would be much appreciated.

For the longest time LPE used stock L98 heads ported on their 383s. You know how stout a LPe engine is. :) Are the heads those? For $2000 that sounds like a killer deal coming with everything.

They should go right on. A neighboring 383 LPE Vette...this could be a good thing! I'll be on the lookout for you. We definitely have to cruise to the Berlin Turnpike once and give those RICERS a lesson in being SPANKED.

JD,
Would you look over the images for me and give me some feedback? This deal could go down soon, and he just dropped the asking price to $1700! I'm starting to get a little worried. My E-Mail is:vadr1@hotmail.com. Any help you can give would make me feel a little better. Thanx

If you do get the complete super ram and the head + roller rockers all for 1700, it sounds like a good deal to me.

You need to know what size chamber those heads are.
Yes 383 heads will work on your engine. But the chamber size will alter your compression ration depending on what it has.

Lets look at this....

New:

SuperRam ~$1400
1000cfm TB : ~$560
Injectors: ~$250
Heads: ~$600 for even "eh... alright" ones.

And you're asking us if you should get it? :)

I would jump on it NOW :yesnod: Lingenfelter uses the stock 113 heads. just to get a set of these heads ported like that will cost $1500-2000

I believe Lingenfelter charges $2300 to port the stock 113 heads.

What is the seller going to do with the 383 short block and what are you going to do with your stock heads?

I will be picking up the setup this Sunday, at that time I will inquire about the short block. As for the stock heads, I was entertaining selling them off as part of a package to recoup my investment. I have some high performance TPI upgrade stuff that never made it to the install phase. I have to make the big decision whether or not to hold on to the stuff after trying out the Super Ram setup for awhile. I'll post anything that I decide to sell here first, to give Forum members first dibs.

On an engine with 170,000 miles it would NOT be a good idea to remove the heads/intake and replace/repair them without refreshing the bottom end of the engine.

I can expound on this more if anyone wants to hear it.

Why? Beach Bum had over 100k miles on his engine before he started modifiying it. I have over 165k on mine and she'll be modified for 400hp soon plus a little bit of spray later on. (I'm just playing devil's advocate)

Yeah, and then you'll be playing "Devil's guy with a connecting rod sticking out of the AC evaporator". :D Bolt on your goodies, but DON'T spray that motor, unless you want an excuse for a new 383.:D

Yeah spraying or supercharging any motor that late in the game is just asking for trouble. And I am willing to bet a new block is not in your budget nor was it in your future list of stuff to buy when you build the 383.

Guys, I deeply appreciate the advice about the engine, but all is not what it seems. Although the mileage on my car is 170K, the short block was replaced at 121K, awhile before I purchased the car. That was one of my deciding factors on purchasing my Vette. Conventional wisdom told me that the upper engine would be easier to upgrade (if necessary) with bolt on performance products like heads and an intake, then to look forward to getting the whole engine pulled. I'm loving this site more and more each day!

Spraying a stock cast piston 350 already making 375-400hp NA is not going to last very long.
