A lot of the power steering feed lines are rubber hose. The rigid line going from the PS resivior to the pump just doesn't want to line up. I thought about adding some more hose, to give a little more room to get in there to tighten a clamp, or better yet, just replace the entire rigid line with hose. This may need to be re-routed since the rigid line goes next to the bottom crankshaft pulley. What would be a good hose to get that would take the heat? Is there some trick to get the resivior tank to line up with the line as it slides down into position on the verticle holders?
Thanks!
First off you need hose that is made for power steering fluid or hydraulic hose. Coolant hose will be eaten up by the fluid. You can buy random lengths of PS hose but without the pre-molded bends, there is a chance that straight hose will kink when you bend it into position and that will cut off the flow of fluid.
The low-pressure side of the system uses molded hose so that the hoses will line up properly and attach. It does take some effort to get the low-pressure hoses attached.
You may have to remove the pump pulley and loosen the pump in order to get some "wiggle room" to attach the hoses and clamp them down.
