I have a 89 c4 and the dist has a built coil. Can I use a MSD dist part # 8366 without built in coil? If so, what coil should be used and what would I need to do for a harness from that dist to harness of car
Thanks

Mike at EFI Connection (mike@eficonnection.com)
has the small to large cap adapter harness to connect the 8366 to the existing 4 wire HEI harness plug and the small dist plug w/ pigtail to hook up the remote coil on the 8366
Tell him what you are doing and he will fix you up.Excellent service

How is this setup? Didn't know there is a harness to adapt.
The F-Body L98's and TBI trucks had a small cap computer controlled dist with remote mounted coil. The # 8366 is MSD's version of this dist.
Has the same 4 control wires as HEI dist so with the above harness adapter it plugs straight into your old HEI plug. Because of the remote coil ,the 8366 has seperate plug to connect the coil wires
Just need t0 find suitable location to mount coil

I know this thread is a couple months old, but it was on line with what I'm working on.
I'm toying with going to a small cap dist set-up and was considering this particular one.
My question is, Is the included gear OK to use with my cam? I have a Comp cams XFI268 which should be compatable with the factory GM steel melonized gear and from what I've found the MSD comes with and iron melonized gear. I found mixed info on this and am a bit confused.
I know I can buy Comp Cams composite gear and would definitely be fine, but it's kind of hard to buy a $300 distributor and have to buy a $110 gear for it.
