My shifter won't go into the reverse position. It rows through 1-2-3-4 fine. However it acts as if the slot to get into reverse isn't even there. The odd thing is that the car is stuck in reverse. Anybody have any ideas as to why the shifter won't go into reverse? I have dealt with the car being stuck in reverse before (about a month ago as a matter of fact), so if I could get the shifter to cooperate, I might could fix the other. I'm open to suggestions...
You may want to jack it up and try moving it out of reverse manually by pushing the reverse rod in the opposite direction it is in...Sometimes sloppy linkage will knock it out of wack.

Excellent idea.
Sometimes the tip breaks off the reverse lockout rod, and the owner smacks it really hard sideways trying to get it to go into reverse (it must say in the manual to smack it good if it don't work)...The shift lever tip gets jammed between the plates and screws everything up...
Lucky you don't have two gears engaged simultaneously...(I charge $.50 for every word over 10 letters...)
