Need to get my brakes done soon and just wondering how much more it would cost me if I go the C5 upgrade instead of just replacing the C4 pads and rotors? I just have the basic brakes, not the HD.
Is it worth the extra cost? I am more of a polisher then a cruiser and the car only gets driven occasionally and not hard.

If you like how they look then it may be worth it to you. When I put them on I did because pads cost less and I use many of them tracking the car. C5 calipers with abutment brackets were $175. I think I paid $90 for the adapter brackets, then $30 per rotor. They came with stock C5 pads which I thought were poor, so figure $130ish for decent pads. DRM bias spring $12, and brake lines $100, were also nice to do.
Add in the cost of wheel spacers to fit your wheels, my stock wheels fit okay.
I did a C5 brke upgrade on my 87 last year. In my thread about the upgrade, I listed information regarding part numbers and prices. But these prices were from a year ago and are in US dollars. CDN prices would be close to the same except for the taxes.....
C5 front brakes require 17" wheels for clearance and the 17" sawblades won't work. Also, according to other brake upgrade threads, the C5 caliper abutment brackets are on backorder nationwide.
For general street use, you would be saving lots of money by just going to a better pad. The stock brakes with something like Hawk HPS pads or a good street pad from Carbotech will be all that you need for pads.
For rotors, stock rotors will work fine.
At the same time, you might want to upgrade the flexible brake lines to stainless coverered versions using ones from Earl's or Goodridge. Do a complete brake fluid flush and fill with a good grade of DOT3 fluid. Castrol LMA is a good DOT3 fluid to use and should be available at parts stores.
Try to improvise with what you have available to you(if you do). I have a friend who is a machinist. I fount the exact blueprints for the adaptor brackets somewhere on this forum, he will build them for me. I have good autowreckers as a wholesale discounted supplier for the dealership I work at, and they have some calipers for 20 bucks each. After that all I have to get is the Powerslot Rotors and Hawk Pads, with some SS brake lines and Im set.
I have used as many of the resources I have over the whole course of my build. I havent yet done the C5 upgrade, but when I do I will have some C4 Power Slots and some HPS pads for sale with very low miles.
