I just installed new oil pressure switch after the old one failed to power fuel pump. '89 'Vette started and after ten miles, low pressure light came on. Is it possible that I didn't torque the switch to specs? The car kept running until I returned home, but the low PSI light stayed on.
As long as there is no oil coming out from the hole, the switch should be sending a voltage signal for the gauge. Maybe the old unit was not working exactly right and cut off the FP.
Have you checked the oil pressure using an analog gauge?
The oil pressure sending unit should be at right angles to the oil pressure switch. The "switch" sits upright while the oil pressure sending unit is horizontal.
The oil pressure switch has to be installed to keep the engine running. The pressure sending unit can be removed and the hose to an analog pressure gauge can be installed there to test oil pressure.
What oil pressure value was displayed on the digital gauge as you were driving home??
The oil pressure switch has to be installed to keep the engine running.
This is not correct. The fuel pump will still run with out
oil pressure. The ecm commands the fuel pump relay
on as long as the distributor is turning.
I agree , check it with a gauge.
