It seems it is generally only slightly cheaper to rebuild (especially once you factor in shipping) vs buying new. Certainly the convenience factor is higher buying new. With rebuilds you can probably have them alter a few things, though. I know they will rebuild FX3 shocks stiffer.

I looked into this a year or so back but it turned out that it was a little cheaper to purchase new shocks. The freight for heavy shocks back & forth to the factory was the KILLER. http://www.bilsteinus.com/services.php
