Hold the black one and turn the other one. That nut is the easy one. The one on the exhaust manifold is a pure t bi#$H.

Get some PB blaster as mention and let them soak over night as mentioned. A good rap with a hammer might help some after they soak. Just make sure your wrenches are good and tight or you'll round them off.

Except that the statement below is a copy and paste from the very first post:

Could I just drop the car off at a shop, have them remove the covers. Take them home for me to paint and bring it back for a professional to put them back on?

Btw I have LT1

Thanks for info and opinions

Not very polite to post purely for the purpose of correcting someone. Especially when it is you that is clearly wrong. After reviewing the thread, it looks like an LT1 to me.

Sounds easier to me.

Btw, I repainted my door handles and rearview mirror wind deflectors ( whatever there called)this way. I could have removed it all to paint...but why?

Came out really good.

Anyone know WHY you couldn't paint VC's while their on the engine, if ya do it right?
There is no good reason. As I said, some like to make a mountain out of a mole hill. The OP clearly wants to do the job "right" so he has chosen the mountain. As we all age, we usually realize there are better things to do with spare time than to disassemble something that doesn't need it.

In the 19 years I have owned my vette, I have resprayed the valve covers 4 times. Twice on the motor, and twice off the motor (during an engine swap). No one could tell the difference, including me.
Some well placed paper and shop rags kept the overspray off everything I did not want painted.
