Default TPiS Heads?

I've been in the market for heads lately, and the AFR's just seem so outrageous. Upon searching for a cheaper alternative, I came across these:

What do ya'll think?

are you dead set on replacing the heads? If not, you might want to consider the following...

elliot port works (ports the stock heads)
Advance induction (port the existing heads OR purchase Trickflow castings ported from them).

Otherwise, Dart heads are certainly a reputable set of heads!

I talked to a guy with an LT1 trans am at a meet last night and he mentioned the elliot port works porting. Can you elaborate?

I went with Elliot port works, great price, great customer service Lloyd is very helpful and a great guy, and the heads came out real nice

http://elliottsportworks.com/ the website has a lot of info on the head packages and cams offered and Lloyd should be able to answer any other questions you have

Lloyd is a VERY well-known porters (esp of stock heads) out there. (Often referred to here as "LE".) He's in TX and is a stand-up guy. Very patient and will answer all of your questions.

The other options are well worth considering too. Those Darts you linked looked to be priced right...probably where AFR's should be. Certainly that's near their L98 head pricing.

Take your time and research on head selection. In terms of performance and reliability, this is one of the most crucial mod decisions you will make. There are alot of good options out there, but you really want to avoid a bad one. While a top notch set of heads will set you back, the reward and peace of mind will be worth it.

Most importantly to know going in is what you want out of the heads. Performance is many different things to many people. Do you want top end, low end? How do you drive? Do you go to the track, drag or autocross? What rpm range do you spend most of your time, and where do you want that power? Not to mention that a poorly constructed head could be the end of the entire motor.

These are all things you probably thought about. But considering the expense vs. reward factor, you may not want to cheap out on this one. If a top end head is out of your budget, than a good porter can be your best friend. JMHO

Paid the extra for the better heads and never looked back. Would do it again! AFR 180 comps.

I really like the specs of that LE2 head set, and I really want to pair them with a CC XFI 467. Anyone using the LE2 heads?

Also, would it be better to go with the 180cc competition afr's or the 195cc street afr's?

And another side thought: how would these fair?
http://www.tpis.com/parts/view/135

I plan on running the CC XFI 467, and its ideal operating range is 2000-6000. I don't plan on taking the car past 6k, so with that in mind, what would be a good bet? I want it to be STRONG from 4300-6000

Comps rpm estimates on that camshaft are no where near accurate. With a good set of heads the 467 will peak ~6500 rpms.

If you are going to use LE why not get one of his custom grind camshafts that are matched to the heads.

I got the Elliot's LE2 in my LT4 and it is a beast. My LT1 is asking for the same recipe .

Great point. If I decide to go with the LE2's, would it be advisable to go with the cam he says is comparable to a XFI 467?

Ya mean what PLRX said 4 posts above isn't enough? I think Cuisinart's point was to ask you about goals. Is this for racing where every 1/10th counts....or for fun?

If the later, you'll be fine. FWIW, I think BigGrizzly also had a fairly big write-up on his LE heads.

I have TPIS/AFR's on mine.....I think they are the 187 cc chamber variety whereby TPIS did their own porting on them......I bring that up since TPIS has done plenty of research on L98/LT1 engine types.....looks like a good quality head for the money, IMHO......do they have dyno numbers they can share?....call them......

Picked up .2 and 3 MPH upgrading from the TPIS ported LT1 heads with the AFR 195CC eliminator competition heads. The extra $1,000 was a no brainer IMHO.
