Default 1989 engine question

Been looking at an 89 vette with 32000 original miles great condition but the guy says it's got an lt1 in it but to my knowledge that didn't come out till 92. Anyone know something I don't? Just curious. Thanks!

I suspect that it has the original L98 engine in it. Although it is possible to change out the engine in a L98 car to LTX or LSX engines the vast expense in going from a L98 to an LT1 is not justified by the marginal performance gain. The L98 could have been modded into a much more powerful engine following proven builds by others. One of those mods is to install an LT1 intake on the L98. Maybe that is what he meant? I read one forum once (GMC truck forum IIRC) where someone wrote, "L98's had iron heads and LT1's had aluminum". Of course, 86L and up Corvette L98's had aluminum heads too but maybe this belief was more widespread than I thought it could have been.

I did see a Jeep Cherokee with an LT1 in it online once so anything is possible. But everything isn't likely.

Can you post up some pictures of the car's engine bay?

Okay. I thought it was the case. Good deal either way but I thought the guy was a bit off for his timeline of the engine. The other thing was that it say tuned port injection on the side which I thought was a give away. But just wanted to make sure I was correct on my thinking! I'll post some pics tomorrow. Thanks again.
