My 86 will not start after I replaced the battery. It turns over but doesn't even cough a little. I can spray started fluid in the intake and it tries to start. I have verified that the fuel pump does not come on when the switch is turned on. I can jumper the fuel pump and it comes on, I get good pressure at the rail, but still won't attempt to start. I'm assuming the injectors are not recieving a signal from the ECM.
I read on another thread, that when the swith is turned on, I should get a "check engine soon" light, and failure to do so indicates no power to the ECM. It said to check the fusible links near the battery and referred to a "A1" troubleshooting flow chart but it was not posted.
My problem seems to be ECM related. Would the no "check engine soon" light with the switch on indicate no power to the ECM. If so, is there a specific process to locate the problem?
I forgot to mention that I have a leak into the right floorpan that I have not been able to locate. Am I correct that the ECM is located under the right dash? I'm thinking it has been wet and that may be my problem.
I've got two leads together that come out of the positive battery clamp that go about 6" to a connector (corroded) with an orange lead from it to a wiring harness - do you think that is the ecm feed?
Yes, I pulled the fuse and checked - also checked the injector fuses - haven't checked for btty at fuse though.
Do you need the color too? Did you look at the diagram I posted?
I went and looked it up. Yes it is orange. It's ORN 340 on Agent's first link. You unplugged it during your batt change. Get some good electrical cleaner or cut the connector out and install a new one. Doesn't have to be the same kind.
Eddie! Thanks so much! I had a wire that looked like the one in your diagram. I checked continuity to the battery feed connector and it was ok. I then noticed another orange wire that had broken off from the battery clamp and fallen down below the battery. The service engine soon light came on and the car cranked right up! I really appreciate your help! Thsnks again!
