Thumping noise, gear indicator
I am looking at a '94 that looks good except two things. It has a dull thumping noise that stays in synch with engine speed coming from the vicinity of the passenger side valve cover. I have heard lifter noise and this is not it. The auto trans gear indicator stays in one spot when you move the shifter. Your thoughts please about what the engine problem might be and the difficulty of fixing the shift indicator.

The gear shift indicator is an easy fix, but I would be very cautious of the dull thump. That is typically the term I would use to describe main bearing noise. If the rest of the car & deal seems good pay someone qualified to evaluate the noise.
