Default 1000 miles now

After getting my 86 back on the road after buying from the old ownner.

And old ownner had it sitting for the last 7 years with 144800 on it.

I have drove it now a 1000 miles I notice it using oil about 1 quart low.

I changed fluids and all filters before driving the car before I dove the car after sitting for the last 7 years.

It not leaking it's not blowing blue smoke seems to run fine.

Any Ideas where I should start looking Valve seals Rings or what.

I mite do a compresion check in the morning but it cranks over evenly no surging no over heating.

I know the motor getting little tired and I know 1 quart not a lot of oil but I rather fix if I can before it turns in to a tow job to get the car home.

I am planning to go through the motor trany and complete drive line one of these days but I need to save more money up before I do this.

Thanks

One qt in 1K is not excessive. When I was a line tech at a dealer the factory would not honor a oil usage claim unless consumption was a qt in 800 miles or less.

Suggest another brand of dino oil the next oil change. IMHO: High milage cars benefit from Shell Rotella T 15-40.

A few full throttle pulls in a lower gear will help free up the piston rings.

I will try a high Mileage oil anext time nd see what happens I using Castrol 5-30 for now.

I thought Shell Rotella was for trucks.

I use it in one my dirt bikes once I did notice it trun black very quickly.

I have rev the car out but not real hard for a short runs.

Should I let wind it up hard and hold it there.

I like the car but it could use some more power.

Still chasing the bugs out of the car.

I been thinking of putting a new crate motor in it and put the stock motor and put in storage in the garage so Have the stock motor if I ever need it.

I don't want a race car but one that can out run a new Toyota car when needed it's a Vett.

It is but its a high detergent oil thats REALLY good at cleaning out crud and varnish. diesel oil is meant to clean up the soot that is inherent in a diesel.. it works pretty well and it has more of the zinc and additive package that has been removed form car motor oils..

NO, its been sitting a long time.. give it a chance to loosen up and all the seals and what not to rehydrate.. the rings will loosen up in normal use, you could try a little sea foam pushed into one of the vacum lines that will loosen rings and clean the valves off. (just follow the driections on the can its easy.)
