i just finished installing the dana 36 in my 87 vert. then came time to fill it with gear oil. i found some valvoline 80-90 that said limited slip on the bottle. do i still need to put in the limited slip additive, or is it already in there?
i meant to bring the bottle home with me, but of course, i forgot. i got it at autozone. all i remember is it said sae80w-90. then also on the front of the bottle, it said "limited slip".

I haven't seen that but maybe the fine print on the back of the container will give you the answer. Since you are a guy I assume you didn't read the directions.

MT-1 is the services group for non-syncronized gear sets and heavy service. GL-5 is severe services group and should allow use with most complex applications.

i'm not all that versed in this stuff. does this mean i am good with this fluid?
i called the valvoline tech support line today. they told me there is limited slip additive in the gear oil. but recommended adding more if car is driven hard, or taken to the track.
I believe you'll still need to add the GM additive anyways. As I had read those type of bottles only contains 2 oz of additive, and that is what the tech said on the phone. So, since you won't use up 2 full bottles, you'll run up short on 4 oz of additive. The tech also said adding the 4 oz of additive won't cause any problems.
The tech also said the synthetic that is in the Durablend and Synpower will eat silicone. And mentioned something about RTV. I know the case is sealed with something like RTV. So, I think I'll just go with the regular Valvoline 80w-90 in the white bottle.
