GM Ignition Keys?
Does anyone know where to get the OEM Corvette ignition keys with the VATS pellet? GM dealers want $20+ each for them.
I saw a thread a while back listing vendors who can provide them at a reduced price, but I can't seem to find the post.

I would like to see that post also. I usually go to a locksmith and pay more than $20.

Do a search on that "crap" national auction site. Blanks sell for $12.79.
You must decode your chip (1-15)(the puck on your key) and then cut the blank to your ignition.

Ebay. I think I paid about $14.00 for both (ignition and door keys). And they were GM, not aftermarket.

Speaking of keys, I have ...had... only one set.
Went to dealer up the road, $20.00 for both ign and door.
Not bad.

I almost can't believe these prices. Could the mark up from GM and locksmiths be that much. I really feel like a fool now if these keys really cost this little.
I am pretty set on keys right now but just might try it out anyway.

Yep! Funny thing is, $3.25 is what I paid 3 or 4 years ago from the same place.

Are these GM keys or some aftermarket manufacturer? If aftermarket, how is the quality?

My local Ace Hardware makes chip keys. You can probably call them for a price. I think I paid like $13.00 for mine. Works Fine.

Some people are perfectionists...
I already have
keys .
But if it were that cheap for
GM keys , I'd go for it just for authenticity. The ignition key for my 85 Trans AM has what looks like a briggs and stratton logo on it. The other copy says ACE on it. They, at one point, had the black plastic covers on them. They crumbled off. (Thus the question about quality..) If I cared about that car still, I'd get real GM keys for it, too.

I took my one set of keys to my GM dealer and while my other GM was being serviced (actually a re-call) they made me a spare set for no charge.
