Lt1 Roller Rockers
The time has come for me to purchase new roller rockers for my LT1 build.
I am looking for some information on several different brands that I am looking at.
Comp cams
Crane
Scorpions
I my heads are worked lt1 heads , cam is a CC305, aftermarket springs, ect.
I do know that I am looking for 1.6 ration rockers , full roller, self aligning. Not sure if I need narrow body or not. (Maybe a question somebody could answer for me).
Anyway , price / quality , bang for the buck. Does anybody have any information to add for the 3 listed brands above ?
Thanks in advance!

I've ran both Crane Gold 1.6 SA rockers and Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 SA RR's. Both a high quality rocker, only difference was the Cranes were a bit quieter.
Currently I am running Comp Cams' 1.6 non self-aligning Pro Magnum roller rockers with TrickFlow guide plates and Chromemoly pushrods. You should consider a similar setup for a more stable valvetrain and future engine mods.

I am thinking about roller rockers this winter. I don't know much here about the lt1 basically i'm still in the learning curve. Im greatfule for the info on the crane gold. I take it my stock heads will be fine with these things correct? Also is their any issues on regular driving and idle with the 1.6's? I want a mild mod nothing wild. Did the 1994 lt1 come with roller lifters or not? if it didn,t is all i need to change are the lifters? or will it require a cam too. I would love to go to roller rockers and roller lifters if it doesnt have roller lifters.
My car is currently totally stock.

Chris, your 94 already has roller lifters, and you can install roller rockers without any driveability issues. If you are installing a 1.6 ratio rocker I would also recommend a valve spring change.

Thanks for letting me know that STL. Now I know I don't have to worry about roller lifters. I had seen the issue with needing to change the valve springs if i went 1.6. What is the factory spec? is it 1.5 or 1.52? I see both on the market. I really would like the roller rockers because I know this will make the motor run smoother and reduce friction and heat on the motor. This will be a winter project but I like to feel something out before I do it. Tht way I know what to look for and what I need.

Would comp cams part number CCA-1318-16 be what I am looking for?

The engine is a 2nd motor that I have built for the car, its sitting on the stand just waiting for roller rockers, soon as they arrive I can slap them on , prime it , button it up and begin planning and plotting for the install.
Again, thanks!

It's best to swap springs since the 1.6s increase valve lift around .030" which dramatically reduces spring coil clearance. Many guys cut corners and don't install new springs, but new ones is the best way to go.

GM refers to them as 1.5s but when measured they are more like 1.4x

What's the general impression of beehive springs? I have read that when they fail they offer no protection at all whereas the traditional springs will still act a bit as a spring. But are beehive springs really failing that often?

A while back Comp changed the source of their 918s and they had some bad batches....
So once again stick with Pac and don't look back...
I've been running a set of PACs on my daily driven 355 I have many datalogs with the engine reving above 7000rpm... with NO ISSUES ...engine has been together for a couple of years.

Hmmmmm I already have a nice set of Isky guide plates, guess that means I should follow suit and get some non self-aligning rockers and be done with it.

EDIT: I just did a search and couldn't find anyone selling the 1305's, maybe they are discontinued. If you want to run Comp rockers you might have to get the new Ultra Pro Magnum. But, I would still recommend the 7/16" rockers/studs.

is there any problem using the 3/8 roll rockers ?
why some people prefer to go with 7/16 studs rockers?
also what good valve spring for 1.6 roll rockers, and do the stock retainers ,fit in this case (1.6 rockers and aftermarket springs)?
thanks.

I'm glad all of you are discussing the springs here. I want to start with the roller rockers because I know that regardless of what I do later they are a good investment and will only magnify any other mods I might do.

One good thing about double vs beehive springs is that if you break one of the doubles, you don't drop the valve. There was a sting of beehive failures but I don't recall the details. Probably a batch of bad wire.
I don't think there are actually that many spring makers. A lot of folks just put their name on them.
I waited 3 weeks for a set of Cranes that were back ordered. Finally went with Howard doubles.

The LT4 101# spring will be fine for your car on 1.6 full RR's. Pace Performance has a set of 16 for under $40.
I would go ahead and get new retainers if you want. They are cheap and you can get them locally.
