Default LT 1 low coolant problem

help, i have a 1994 LT1 formula(its ok i own corvettes too) and i now have a low coolant light on my dash. the coolant level is fine, it doesn't overheat, i've opened to bleeder screws to make sure that i didn't have trapped air. i assumed that a bad low coolant sensor might be the culprit, but i've checked the haynes manual and snooped on the web and cannot find that this engine is equipped with one. anyone have any ideas on what might create this problem and/or if this motor has a low coolant sensor

thanks david

Excuse my ignorance, but are you referring to a Pontiac? If so check a couple of inches below the radiator cap. I think its the same as my Z28????????

Addendum: Try filling your recovery to the hot level. I had the same problem after changing the coolant & bleeding the system. Filling the rec/tank turned off the lite after one driving cycle, also worked on the vette.

My 96 Impala SS (LT1) had the same problem. The float was stuck. After verifying that the coolant is at the right level, try lightly thumping the plastic reservoir with your hand. I think your sensor is in the reservoir, not the radiator.

Good luck,

thanks for the info lou, i had already filled the recovery tank, but you were right about the location of the sensor, just below the rad cap. i'm now just trying to find a reasonable price. the dealer wants $50. and yes it is a pontiac
thank you guys very much for responding

cya david
