Do you guys know how many wires the sensor plug should have(into the block between plug #'s 6 & 8). Mine only has one wire plugged into the back of it, but it looks as if there should be two wires(I think mine's green).
Are you talking about the brass sensor that bolts to the heads (drivers side)? If so, that's not an O2 sensor. That sensor is a fan switch and it only has one lead. That sensor is threaded in the coolant passage on the drivers side head and when the coolant reaches a certain temperature, it makes a ground which activates a relay to send a positive current to the electric radiator fan. The O2 sensor is bolted to the front exhaust Y-Pipe. Got a pic of that sensor just to make sure what it is?
I know the O2 is in the header, but I meant the lead to where the sensor lead to relay the info. Maybe it isn't the O2 sensor wire at all, but I thought it was when I was tracking the wire down.
The O2 sensor plugs into another black plug, and that plug leads somewhere, I was wondering what that plug in the block was(in between spark plugs 6 & 8). If it's not the O2 relay, then what is this thing, and how many wires are supposed to be plugged into the back of it?
It is like what was said above-dash coolant sensor. I wondered the same thing on my 96 LT4-only one wire...thought I broke another wire off on my engine removal...but I didn't cause it still works:)
Alright thanks guys. Now I have another question then, where does the O2 sensor relay the info to? I know it must go somewhere, and my computer is reading something wrong with the O2's so I'm trying to track all the wiring down.
The O2's simply tell the PCM what the air/fuel mixture is.
If you have many miles on your current one-you may install a fresh one as they do degrade with mileage. Picked up 1 mpg on wife's vw and just installed two in my LT4 (it has 4!). They go for about 35 bucks from Jeff Kopp.
Maybe that is simplifing your question too much...I only have a poor excuse of a manual-Haines-so no diagram. Sorry.
yes, that is the coolant analog guage sensor. It only needs one lead because the outside of the sensor is grounded to the block. Your O2's are always going to plug into the exhuast tubing.
There is a small wiring harness that goes up the rear around the firewall (at least it did when we put mine back together lol :) ). THe analog coolant sensor wire gets added into this harness as well.
