There is no engine # as such as used by other car makers
The front block pad above the water pump has part of the car VIN stamped on it if original engine
Have to remove A/c compressor to see it

Yep. And if the block has been 'decked' then there may not be any numbers at all.

When you want to put a US car on the road in Australia , in most states you have to convert it to RHD.
As this requires cutting the firewall and other essential bits up ; then sticking them back together , you need a shop that is certified to do the conversion work and a compliance engineer to sign off that the work is up to required standard before local DMV will register it.
The car gets the " compliance " plate shown in the link above fitted to show that it is legal for road use and for future resale
Because the rest off the world is not good enough for local authorities; even on imported RHD cars you have to change seat belts to Aust standard ones , sometimes window glass ,lights, and other things.

You can buy a '80's C4 off the wharf (LHD ) for 10-15K local pesos then RHD conversion / certification cost run another 8 -10K .
At US$1 =A$1.20 owning a Vette ain't cheap down here
