Bolt torque question
Hi all, got a question I could use some input on. Replaced the right-front
hub assy. on my 91 due to excecive play. While Torqueing the first 2 bolts
(specs. call for 47ft. pounds of torque) checked my settings cuz something didn't seem right, no click. Was actually set 70. Backed them off and re torqed to the correct setting. Did I do any damage to the
bolts?? This is really bugging me, what you'all say.

Maybe. The bolt manufacturer will have a maximum stretch point that will ruin a spring by not allowing it to return to size when loosened. Trying to determine what that max number is will be near impossible.

I wouldn't worry about it. With a straight torque value these aren't the "torque to yield", therefore stretch is not a big problem. If you're worried then re-check the torque after a week.
I've been changing these frequently and have been using German spec (goot 'n tight). Wasn't aware of the torque value. Will adopt. Haven't had any problems, and again I'm servicing these a couple times a season.

So I did my control arms bushings, u-joints, diff fluid change, and now time to put on the rear composite leaf spring 3 long bolts. I put never seize on them to get accurate torque reading and began to tighten them all the same turns in unison, When i got them torqued to the Corvette Brakes suggested 75 foot pounds, the spring was still loose. Then I read more thoroughly and instructions state tighten with load on suspension". As soon as I put full load on rear leaf the bolts were loose again, I torqued each with full riding load and never had to tighten again
