Default Problem reinstalling engine.

I am having a hell of a time getting it back in, I am thinking I should have left the motor mounts off, it's sooooo freakin close but I just can't get it that last little bit. Are you supposed to remove them before hand or is it actually possible to get it installed with them on? I'm kinda wishing I had just waited for the exhaust manifolds too, the studs keep catching inside the pipes that they are supposed to bolt too.

Leaving off the exhaust manifolds might give you a little more room to shoehorn the engine in. I took mine off. I did have the motor mounts installed. I just had to do a little moving with a bar to get things lined up. I did this all myself...without help. If you can get another to help you, it would make it easier.

I dropped the LT4 in with the engine mounts in. My GF slowly dropped the engine and I was on the floor guiding the mounts' bolts thru the center beam. It found it way in like a _ _ _ _ in a one night stand.

Definitely leave the mounts on amd take the exhaust manifolds off. Sounds like you have helpful Vette owners nearby

Thanks for the help guys, I did learn a few things. Like Paul said, leave the mounts on and the exhaust off, it's a miracle I was able to get the mounts in. And I also need to go in from the side, if my hoist was 2" shorter it would have been more obvious that it was holding me back.

And Wayne, I do keep an eye on the Utah Vette forums, I just haven't been active lately since my car is not running, and everyone I know on the those forums live pretty far from Orem (like up in the SLC area or further).

But I did get about 3 bell housing bolts in tight and have the engine sitting on the mounts, even if they aren't bolted yet. Hope to have it running by this weekend!

Here's one very important thing you shouldn't forget, a lot of headers have to have the motor mount bolts reversed in order for the headers to fit...You might want to do this now if your going to install headers in the future.....WW

PS..It never hurts to plan ahead...WW

Here's my 388 going in. As you can see, motor mounts are bolted on as well as exhaust manifolds, water pump, valve covers with lifter preload already set, damper, etc.

Hope this helps.

I dropped my LT4 back in with the manifolds and mounts al bolted up. In my case though, The converter pipes had been pulled though - all I had to line up was the motor mounts, and make sure I didn't smash the wiper motor
