i have a 88, with cam, ported heads, emission crap gone, new fuel pump, fuel filter ect.
i seem to be having a issue whenever i drive it for a bit then let it sit a few hours and goto drive it again as soon as i put it in reverse it stalls, unless i let it run for about 5 min. before putting it in gear. has anyone had this problem because i cant seem to figure out the cause, thanks all
in park the idle is around 9 to 10, in gear idle is around 6 or 7.
it never stalls, the only time it stalls is when i drive it and let it sit for a few hours then when i go to drive it again if i dont let it sit for about 5 min. before taking off, as soon as i put it in gear it will stall
Has the throttle body ever been cleaned? What is the history of the injectors? What is the condition of the spark plugs? Have you checked the TPS setting? Does the fuel pressure leak down? Does it have a prolonged crank time on those occasions when it stalls?
Does it stall after letting it sit for longer periods of time, such as 6 hrs or more? or overnight?
I am suspecting either a dirty throttle body (IAC pintle and passage ways) or leaking injectors loading one or more cylinders with fuel causing it to choke and stall unless you let it idle and clear itself first before putting it in gear.

***********iv ran cleaner through, injectors looks clean and newer, spark plugs are fine, the tps i checked today was at 1.4 volts. fuel pressure reads almost 40, crank time is a little long id say 5 seconds or so.
now today the scanner said saturation on the mass airflow sensor was reading 3000 or so , lot higher when givin gas.
was told it should be lower by one person i put a new one on today and numbers havent changed.
since i have a cam and ported heads what should the saturation read ?
Does the fuel pressure leak down from 40 over time? Hook up gauge, turn ignition on but do not start it. Fuel pump will run for a couple of seconds to build pressure. Then turn key off and watch gauge and see if the pressure drops in 10 minute intervals. Shouldn't drop fast.
In my opinion, injector cleaner in the gas tank never does much, and probably won't fix a leaky injector.
The TPS setting should be .54 volts on a stock engine. There is a procedure to set the TPS and Baseline idle, do a search and you should find it here somewhere.
Someone else will have to address the MAF saturation. That is beyond me.
